"You can do anything as long as you have the passion, the drive, the focus, and the support."
As I settled into the seat I knew that I would save this memory for life. I pushed down the pedal very lightly and we started to move forward. This would be my first driving lesson with my grandfather. I had only driven so much before and this would be my first on an actual road. I drove into and around a parking lot learning everything there is to know about driving coming from my grandfather. This is something that I value between the two of us. He has always gone the extra step to teach me something or give me opportunities to do things I might have not been able to without him and always gives me the support to do them.
Throughout my childhood I learned almost everything from family members and my parents, but my grandfather would definitely be at the top of the list, behind my parents. He has taught me many useful things in life that have helped me along the way. He taught me many of the aspects of baseball, and positions I would have never have played like catcher. He would give me a catchers mitt and gear, and then take me outside to throw the baseball for a bit. Experiences like this have strengthened such a great relationship between us, and has changed me in many ways.
During the past couple years my grandfather became a cop, and worked various towns. This surprisingly has given the two of us opportunities that I would have never had. He had to qualify in shooting many times throughout the year, so one time he took me for practice. I now go with him every other week or so to shoot with him, and have become quite good at it. This experience has taught me many things and has given me a great bonding experience with him.
Having a person like this in my life has really strengthened my skills and relationship with my family. This is something that everyone should have because we only get to spend time with our family's for so long and people like my grandfather have given me experiences that I will remember for life. I will always cherish the time I have been given with him and the rest of my family, but I am lucky to have memories and skills to reflect on the time I had.
